History: Prosperity Bed and Breakfast was
founded in the once thriving mining town of Prosperity, MO in 1907. Originally constructed as a schoolhouse,
the two-story red brick and carthage stone building was built in the heart of the tri-state mining district, which
once had thriving buisnesses such as churches, saloons, general stores, and hotels. The schoolhouse closed
its doors in 1962 after the student population fell from 1,200 students during the mining boom to a final count
of 32 students.
Prosperity School consisted of four large classrooms, divided
by two central hallways on both floors. One of the classrooms on the second floor had a stage and was used
as the auditorium. Today this building has been converted into a beautiful and elegant romantic getaway
and is now better known as the Prosperity School Bed and Breakfast. Janet and Richard Roberts now own the bed
and breakfast and have restored this school into a very relaxing and comfortable home away from home. For more information
